This piece is symbolic of the cyclic nature of life and death and the time contained within those frayed ends. The hands are stretched and form both open hands but also reminiscent of a closed rib cage, containing the heart and life.
The thumbs hold an unidentifiable fruit, which becomes also a head or skull of the skeletal figure. The fruit references both the Orange, a traditional symbol of death, rebirth, and the cyclic nature of seasons. As well as the Plum, a reference to greediness and theft commonly used in forklore and moral rhyme.
